On the 20^th of January, President-elect Donald Trump will officially move back into the White House, becoming the 47^th President of the United States. Inauguration Day will feature a formal swearing-in ceremony, musical performances, a celebratory parade, and several formal balls. Vice-President-elect JD Vance will also take the oath of office, joining Trump on stage to formally begin their administration.

The event marks the end of one President’s term and the beginning of the new administration. It is the most high-profile moment in the power transfer between government leaders in Washington, DC.

A pivotal part of the ceremony involves the President-elect reciting the oath of office: “I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States and will, to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.“

Though he won the election in November, Trump officially became the 47^th President upon taking this oath. He previously served as the 45^th President from 2017 to 2021. Vance will also take his oath of office before assuming the Vice Presidency.
